A very large M7.9 (M7.8 revised) earthquake has struck Western Indonesia near Sumatra.
This is the large earthquake we were watching for in the West Pacific.
The M7.8 follows dozens of deep M4.0+ earthquakes which struck Fiji, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Luckily, no wave was generated from this event. This is near the same location which was struck March 28, 2005 by a M8.6– which caused a major tsunami, killing thousands of people. (and somewhat close to the December 26, 2004 M9.1 earthquake + mega-tsunami location which was also in Indonesia).
March is also the month when the large Japan M9.0 mega-quake occurred .. March 11, 2011.
It appears March is a month to keep an eye on when it comes to large seismic events.
We now need to watch the other silent areas which were warned in the past earthquake forecast. North Japan, Papua New Guinea, and the Mideast all need to be on serious watch now due to this new near M8.0 earthquake.
